Our Honest Kuma’s Corner Review After Eating at Multiple Locations
Looking for the best burger in Chicago? You’ve come to the right place!
We lived in Chicago for 16 years before becoming digital nomads in 2019. We tried all the allegedly best burgers in Chicago. A few times.
And there is one bucket-list-worthy place we knew we had to eat a heavy metal burger Chicago at one last time before we left the city indefinitely: Kuma’s Corner. Here’s why we love it, as well as why you might not.
Note: It’s not a restaurant for everyone. We share the good, the bad, and the ugly so you can decide for yourself!
What is Kuma’s Corner Chicago?
Kuma’s Corner Chicago is a bar that originally started in the Avondale neighborhood and serves a variety of large and uniquely topped burgers.
All the burgers are named after heavy metal bands, like Metallica and Pantera. I like the Black Sabbath Burger. The bar also plays heavy metal music, very loudly, during opening hours.
To complement this atmosphere, the heavily tattooed servers and bartenders serve a large variety of microbrewed beers and a tasty assortment of fried appetizers.

Kuma’s Corner Chicago Menu
In addition to massive burgers, Kuma burger Chicago also has amazing mac and cheese with assorted toppings available. They also offer a monthly burger special, including the Kuma’s Indy menu, that has never disappointed me.
The only one I’ve seen come back is the Sleep burger. It’s offered each November, and is essentially a mini Thanksgiving dinner on top of a burger. I’m drooling as I write about it, nowhere near November.

Kuma’s Corner Locations
While the original location in Avondale will always hold a special place in my heart, the restaurant has undergone remarkable growth in recent years, branching out to include several additional locations.
Among these expansions are the popular Kuma’s West Loop, the bustling Kuma’s Schaumburg, and the exciting addition of Kuma’s Indy in Indianapolis.
Each new location brings its own unique charm and flavor, enriching the overall dining experience for food enthusiasts across various regions.

Kuma’s Corner for Kids
Or not. It’s important for parents to note that Kuma’s is not kid-friendly. There’s no special Kuma’s Corner menu for kids and the music is loud. They don’t have high chairs for the little ones.
This doesn’t stop us, or many other parents from going though! Every time we visit Kuma’s there is at least one other family also braving the atmosphere with a kid just to enjoy a quality burger.
Since our son has gotten old enough to eat solid foods, we usually order a full size mac and cheese to all split.
When he was younger, we just brought food with us for him to eat. Bring a kid-friendly cup, too, because all their water cups are glass…and not all kids are ready for adult glassware yet.
Bringing food for older kids who can’t/won’t eat mac and cheese would probably also be acceptable there; the staff is always very chill and accommodating.

Huge and delicious burgers. There’s no way you can eat one in a sitting. Local brew on tap and metal playing at all times. They made us wait outside for 50 minutes in the cold, kinda sucked.
Teakwo23, Kuma’s Corner West Loop Reviewer
It’s a really cool place with a heavy metal theme. Great music, very good food and really nice staff. Definitely worth a visit.
Michael O, Kuma’s Corner Schaumburg Reviewer

Who should avoid Kuma’s Corner Chicago?
Kuma’s Corner is a big hit for burger enthusiasts and rock music lovers. But, just like a rollercoaster isn’t for everyone, Kuma’s might not be your idea of a fun meal out.
Here’s a quick rundown of who should skip visiting Kuma’s:
- Noise Levels: Kuma’s loves to crank up the volume on their rock music. If your family prefers a quieter spot to chat and eat, this might not be your scene.
- Menu Selection: The star of Kuma’s menu is their massive, meaty burgers. Unfortunately, this means limited options for our vegan and vegetarian friends.
- Crowds and Wait Times: Kuma’s popularity often leads to lines and wait times. If your family isn’t keen on waiting or jostling in crowds, you might want to pass.
- Adventurous Toppings: Kuma’s is known for its creative burger toppings. While this excites some, those with a preference for classic burgers might find it overwhelming or unappetizing.
Pro Tip: If crowds aren’t your thing, plan to go at an off time. We love going at 3pm on a Tuesday while most people are working.
Conclusion: Kuma’s Corner Chicago
If you’re looking for an amazing burger in Chicago, and don’t mind a little heavy metal with your meal, then you need to check out Kuma’s Corner.
The burgers are huge, named after famous bands, and taste incredible. We’re often asked, is Kuma’s Corner kid-friendly? Not really. But even though it’s not the best place for kids, parents love it too!
We find going for a late lunch or really early dinner cuts down on the wait times.
Regardless of which location you choose, and when you plan to go, make sure to put a visit to Kuma Chicago on your burger joint short list!
